How to Deal with Blisters (part 3)

Blister Prevention... When, and Where to apply foot protection products.

Generally it is best to protect your feet BEFORE they experience the trauma of blistrs or calluses. Start by selecting the best fitting shoe and sock. The right combination, will help to keep debris from getting into your shoe, where it will agitate your foot. Also be aware, that a lose fitting shoe will allow debris to fall into the shoe around the shoe-collar, and tongue of the shoe. hot feet

If you are an experienced runner, you probably know where your feet typically develop "hot-spots". But also be aware that wearing a different shoe, or running in a unfamiliar environment can escalate the potential for foot injuries. Running on extremely hot surfaces, off-road trails, or where your feet might get wet, will require pre-run preparations.

Your feet may not tell you that you are getting a blister until it is already too late... So when do you know that you have "crossed over that line".

I like to be conservative when in a untested situation... So I'll recommend taking precautions for best foot care before your run.

The photo below is a good indicator of areas where blisters and calluses form. These areas would be important to apply bister protection. Also note that this is not always bilateral. One foot may be more susceptible than the other.
