Kimberly Bowler

Age: 38

What races (names and distances) do you plan on participating in for 2009? I intend to run all the races in the Second Empire Grand Prix Series, except for the Autism Run for which, unfortunately, I will be out of town. I am yet sure yet if I will run any other races in 2009.

What is your favorite race that you have participated in? Why? The race that was the most fun was a 5k trail run through the Presidio in San Francisco. The course was beautiful, if challenging, and the weather was perfect -- low 50s and cloudy.

What are your PR’s for the following distance?

1mi: 5:40

5K: 19:54

8K: 32:16

10K: 43:16

Why do you love to run? I''ve always run, and it''s an important part of my identity. Running is necessary for my physical, mental, and emotional health.

What motivates you toget out the door day afterday for a run? I hope to keep improving, and I know I need to train in order to do that. Racing gives me a way to measure my performance, and positive results motivate me to keep working.

What made you want to start running? My father introduced me to running track when he brought my brother and me to a summer "Twilight Track Series" organized by the local Road Runners Club. I was about 7 that first summer, and we participated in the races for several years. I was almost always the fastest kid at the races, so this early success gave me a taste for competitive running.

At what point did you consider yourself a “runner”? I considered myself an official "runner" when I joined my high school track team.

What is your dream run or race? I would love to do more races in San Francisco or the Bay area, especially trail runs. I find the natural beauty of the area very inspiring.

Do you prefer to run by yourself or with a group? Myself

Why would you be a good representative of Inside-Out Sports? I think I''m a good sport: gracious in victory and defeat. I enjoy competing because it provides me with an incentive to keep training hard, but I most enjoy the energy and camaraderie of the runners at the races. I love being part of the running community and would like to contribute to making it a positive and supportive environment for everyone.
